About the 2001 BMW M3 GTR
The BMW M3 GTR is a grand touring race car manufactured by BMW M Motorsport for using in endurance racing. Introduced in February 2001 and designed by Ulf Wiedhase, the BMW M3 GTR was powered by a 4.0L P60 V8 mated to a 6-speed manual. The car won the 2001 American Le Mans Series and was subject to protests by other competitors alleging it was a prototype; changing regulations meant the car was ultimately withdrawn from the ALMS but the car continued to compete in other series until 2005.
