About the GP40 Diesel
The EMD GP40 is a four-axle diesel locomotive manufactured by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors from 1965 to 1971. Manufactured mainly for freight usage, the GP40 was a longer derivative of its predecessor the GP35 and can be distinguished by the three large radiator fans at the rear of its long hood. Production of the GP40 was discontinued in 1971 after 1,221 were produced, with an improved version, the GP40-2, entering production; the GP40-2 featured a modular electrical system and
