The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, twin-tail variable sweep wing fighter aircraft produced by Grumman Aerospace Corporation and operated by the U.S. Navy and Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force, the Tomcat's sole export customer. The Tomcat entered service with the U.S. Navy on 22 September 1974, acting as an air superiority fighter, interceptor and as a multirole fighter.
