About the Lotus Esprit S1 (submarine)
Wet Nellie is the behind-the-scenes name given to a custom-built Lotus Esprit submarine built in 1977 for the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. Chosen to give Bond (played by Roger Moore) a glamorous car to drive in the film, the submarine was named in reference to Little Nellie, an autogyro featured in You Only Live Twice, which was in turn named after British actress Nellie Wallace. The submarine, according to the film, was developed by Q-Branch of MI6 and its blueprints stolen by KGB Agen
